In 1999 Karen Pittois obtained a PhD in Biochemistry at the University of Antwerp. For 7 years she worked as Senior Scientist at the biotech company Galaápagos in Mechelen (Belgium). In 2006 she started as a lecturer and researcher at AP University College in the educational programs Biomedical Laboratory Technology and Chemistry. Currently she teaches theoretical classes such as biochemistry, molecular genetics, gene technology, immunology and immunopathology and biochemistry practicum to third year students.
She was active in several research projects since she started at AP University College. As project coordinator in the project ‘ddPCR’ she is working on the development of a new diagnostic test to indicate the underlying cause of chronical eosinophilic leukemia.
